Our Background

Uganda Child Rights NGO Network is a coalition of child focused civil society organizations including: Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), national and international organizations working to promote the rights of children in Uganda. Established in 1997, UCRNN has been at the forefront in undertaking advocacy initiatives for children in Uganda.

At the time of inception, UCRNN brought together a total of 10 organizations. Currently, UCRNN has a membership of 95 organizations (as at June 2008) addressing different child rights issues and targeting different categories of children in the various parts of the country in which they operate.

The overarching mandate of UCRNN is to coordinate the various child focused NGOs for better information sharing, undertaking joint initiatives and formulating a collective voice on child rights issues. This is done through networking, advocacy, monitoring and building/strengthening of capacities of the membership.

In the recent years, the network has been active in spearheading approaches in monitoring and promoting childcare and protection, which ultimately promotes the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the child (UNCRC).

UCRNN has continued to spearhead the generation and development of the Alternative report to the Government of Uganda Report on the status of implementation of the UNCRC. To date, two alternative reports have been presented to the UN Committee of Experts on the Rights of the Child.
